High Sodium! February 20, 2010 Barefoot Ken Bob (Huntington Beach, California United States) Is there some reason, still, even today, when we know better, that canned food, even Vegan canned food, is so salty we could use it to repel snails and slugs?
If you want to make these palatable, soak in clear water for a few hours before preparing - after soaking they don't taste half bad.
yummy September 14, 2009 nutritionmom (North Carolina) Just like I remember my grandma used to make for me as a special treat. Batter in cornmeal and light sautee. Great on the go meal with some fresh fruit. It even tastes great served unheated. The only way to make this better is to use organic soybeans.
Okay, but not as good as Morningstar Farms September 1, 2009 LDS (Corning, CA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I used Tender Bits years ago when I first became a vegetarian some 30 years back. It was good then and taste the same today, but I have since moved over to the Morning Star Farm products and there is no comparison. Morning Star has the best non meat products out there. In a pinch Tender Bits are okay, especially when fried in olive or safflower oil after digging in some wheat flour with salt and spices and then beaten egg whites followed by a dipping in wheat germ which gives them a crunchy crust. If you still like meat try Morningstar Farms Chik Patties, Griller Primes, Links or Bacon Strips. If you don't like these stick with meat.
Tender Bits -- Excellent Veggie Option April 9, 2009 Carol 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This product is excellent - I dipped it in a little beaten egg and rolled in bread crumbs and lightly fried in olive oil -- they are a wonderful vegetarian meat substitute.
Um, Um, Good February 25, 2009 Pattycakes (TN) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am not a vegatarian. I tried these based on the reviews. I wanted something that was low in fat/carbs/other bad stuff. I need to lose weight and I love other soy products. So, gave it a try. This has become my favorite Loma Linda product. I add them to everything where I need meat or more substance. I use in stews, pizza toppings if sliced thin, chili, spaghetti, even small tidbits in a salad. They take on the flavor of the sauce they are in, but better than tofu because the texture is firmer. If texture is hard to get over you might not like them, but if that isn't an issue, this is a great product with so many ways to use it. Great chicken substitute if you are in a rush. Microwaves well. I love them.
